Chinese Festival

If you would like to find some colorful traditional festival in Hong Kong, here are the highlighted months:

January
Chinese New Year
Traditional food, red decorations, good-luck flowers, fireworks, Lion dances celebrates New Year coming. Huge flowers market in Victoria Park a week before holiday; Some shops will close during holidays; Fireworks lights up the harbor on the second day of the holiday.

February
Spring Lantern festival
Chinese Valentine day on the 15th day of the first full moon; colorful lanterns light up at night in some parks & shopping malls; People having sweet dumplings & Soup for celebration.

April
Tin Hau Festival
Celebrating the birth of Tin Hau (Goddess of the sea); full of incenses & prayers at temples; Cantonese Opera performed at the temporary set-up bamboo platform outside some Tin Hau Temples.

May
Cheung Chau Bun Festival
Festival for Pak Tai Temple at Cheung Chau Island; Parade of floats with children held up by concealed wires; Vegetarians dish on that day; good luck buns covered the scaffolds for race.

June
Dragon Boat Festival
With drum & Dragon head long narrow boats racing; Different favor rice dumplings packed in leaf are the most popular food during Dragon Boat Festival.

September
Mid-Autumn Festival
Celebrate the harvest & the brightest moon of the year; Children enjoy light-up candles & lanterns in the evening; Eating moon cakes & having family gathering; Dragon fire dance in Tai Hang district gazing at the full moon.
